Military wives should ensure that the children understand why 
their father has to be away for a long time. They have to talk to them and assist them to learn more about being a soldier and what it entails. There are some basic ways you can use to bring out the reality of the father’s career without getting in to ugly side of being in the military. The thought of their father dying away in a battle field can scare the children and even distress them. The information you offer should be positive and interesting so that the kids can become interested in learning more. Here are some ways some ways you can enhance connection between the children and their father:
1. Reading material and graphics: you can ask the children to write letters or draw some pictures and then send to their father. This is a great break from his career and he can get an interesting topic out of the childish thing they tell him. He will learn to connect with the kids just as if he was present. A military family should use all means of communication to keep in touch with the absentee father. Children will feel appreciated when they please their father from a distance.
